Almost two months ago, after my last relapse, I was enlightened by
a two year old. I walked outside on the
porch with him following behind me. I
stayed on the porch but he moved along.
In the blink of an eye, he was all the way across the driveway. Within seconds he got away from me. He walked all the way over the walkway and
across the gravel driveway. When I
noticed where he was at I called him to come back. Now, mind you, he got where he was at on his
own, by himself, with no trouble, however, when he started to come back, he
couldn’t and started crying.
When he seen me walking towards him, calling him, he started
walking and met me halfway.
I do not have any children of my own, but I imagine a parent’s
worst nightmare would be for their child to be lost.
The feeling and the panic in your heart when you look up and do
not see your child is horrifying I would say because I experienced something
slightly similar with this two year old whom I babysit when I looked up and
didn’t see him in sight. As I mentioned, this happened a couple months ago after my last
relapse.
God showed me something through this.
I had wandered off from Him and when I realized I was in a place far from Him I could not get back on my own.
I had to cry out to Him.
Sometimes we get out of sight.
Sometimes we wander off across to the other side. We leave Him. We wander off on our own. When we find ourselves so far away it’s hard for us to come back to Him. We can’t make it on our own. God calls us home, just as I called Samuel when I could not see him. When we cry out for Him, He hears us. If we are willing to follow His voice, He will meet us halfway and lead us home. He will take us by the hand and walk with us.
He leads us back to path safely where there will be stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. There may be stairs to climb along the way, but He is right there with us, encouraging us and guiding us through every step of the way.
Where are you at today? Is God calling you? Do you need help getting back to the path? Respond to Him and cry out. Do you need help climbing the stairs? Take his hand. Walk hand in hand with Him today!
